HISTORY OF SAINT PAUL CITY CHURCH

Saint Paul City Church (SPCC) first began when an outdoor crusade was conducted by Inner City Church of Minneapolis (ICCM) in August of 1999 on the corner of Victoria & University in St. Paul. As a follow up to this crusade, bible studies began being held every Tuesday night at various rented locations. These bible studies were led by Pastors Chris & Monica DeLaurentis of ICCM and Pastor Mike Smith of Redeeming Love Church.

Minnesota District officials invited Steve and Jacque Sullivan to take over this church planting endeavor in May of 2000. They became full time pastors as of June 15 and following a three day crusade June 19-23, the church officially opened. Sunday services began on June 25.

The goal from the beginning is that this outreach would turn into a church plant. Therefore Pastor Mike Smith began to look for permanent facilities. The adjacent store fronts on 1084 & 1088 University were available and became the temporary meeting facilities of the Tuesday night bible studies as negotiations began for the purchase of the above mentioned building. An agreement was finally reached and purchased in May of 2000.  Since the purchase, over half of the purchase price has been paid through the Minnesota Urban Alliance of the Minnesota District Assemblies of God.

The church's vision is to reach out to the outcast and unwanted. A church bus regularly picks up people at two homeless shelters in St. Paul. A meal is served before each service on Sunday nigh.  Over 150 people attend the Sunday service and ministries each week.

The board governing the church is made up of

  • Wes Vagle (District Treasurer),
  • Roger Stacey (District Home Missions director),
  • Ed Tedeschi (District Assistant Superintendent)
